Angel Tree Shopping Spree

We began a new Buckley Family tradition this year.
For the past several years the brothers and sisters in my family have always drawn names and done a gift exchange for each other, but lately we've been noticing that it's harder and harder to buy for each other because we all feel so blessed and not wanting for anything. My dad has been talking about doing something charitable for others for a few years now, and for some reason this year we finally decided to drop the gifts for each other and see if we could just go out and make a difference in the lives of others. Normally we spend $40-$50 on each other and when you times that by 7 kids and mom and dad, it comes out to be a healthy sum of money.
Liz had to go two different places to get enough angels for us all to have some. Monte got a couple from the Cyprus Credit Union where he works and Liz got the rest. They brought them to the Target at Jordan Landing and layed them all out for us to puruse. Once we chose the angels we felt drawn to, we took off as families to load our carts with "goodies." We had sooooo much fun shopping! It felt warm and tingly knowing that the items we were purchasing were going to someone truly in NEED! We all met for a simple dinner at Wendy's afterward and chatted about the experience. Overall, I think everyone enjoyed the experience and learned a bit more about themselves by thinking of others. We're thinking the first Monday after Thanksgiving now has a new Family Night Tradition!!!
